Visscher Endowed Land-Grant chair in physiology, and professor and chair of the Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology at the University of Minnesota Medical School. \u201cWe hope this work will illuminate the ultimate pathway toward effective clinical treatment for DMD patients.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"150-000-times-more-effective\">150,000 Times More Effective<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This study demonstrated that the bottlebrush polymer restored muscle function approximately 150,000 times more effectively than current polymer therapies.<\/strong> Tested in preclinical models of DMD, the treatment shielded the heart from stress-related disease and death while also preventing diaphragm and limb muscle damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because DMD starts in early childhood, researchers think this medication may help maintain muscle strength and improve quality of life when used in conjunction with neonatal screening for DMD.
